Halloween, pumpkin patches, costumes, baseball, hockey, high school football, shorter days, longer nights, cooler weather...hello October! You have finally arrived.
I love October and this time of year, but what I look forward to most is Halloween because I love costumes. If I could wear one everyday - I would. No lie. I even wear them when I run races.
In honor of this fabulous month, let's take a trip down our family's costume walk of fame.
The idea for the roller disco chick costume started with my hair. I wanted to make use of my massive head of hear by feathering it and using lots of hairspray. The rest is history.
I fell in love with the idea of a cute, retro sailor girl. I thought it would be fun and patriotic. I believe I timed this with an election year.
The year I decided to be Sally I asked my boyfriend to be Jack Skellington. It was our first Halloween as a costumed couple and we won the contest at work!
My favorite costume is my Jack Sparrow costume. Nobody recognized me until I spoke and/or they noticed my boobs. The hair that fell into my mouth all day was really annoying, but was worth it because I won the costume contest at work!
My daughter became obsessed with Heath Ledger's Joker and decided she wanted to be him for Halloween. We went to Goodwill, and for about $10 bought the clothes for the costume. With green hair paint and a little face make-up, The Joker was born! She won scariest costume at school! (Yes, the ability to win costume contests runs in our family.)
One year I was a flapper (because I owned most of these clothes anyway)...
while my boyfriend was Chewbacca. I thought it was a romantic match.
Sometimes The World Series happens during Halloween and your favorite team wins. Twice. But you still wear a costume. Kind of.
Sometimes Disney buys Lucasfilm for $4 billion dollars just before Halloween and Minnie and Vader celebrate.
Even during those rare busy years where I was unable to plan a costume, I still managed to have fun passing out candy in a Darth Vader mask. You really can't go wrong with any Star Wars mask on Halloween.
I'm looking forward to my costume this year...*hint*...she's Evil!
