San Francisco Giant Race 2015 10K Recap

San Francisco Giant Race 2015 10K Recap

Even though it is one of my favorite San Francisco races, I didn't know I'd be running The Giant Race until just 17 hours before go time. Life got the best of me and I completely forgot to register online. Lucky for me I have a great friend named Emelia, the owner of Half Crazy Mama. You can bet your sparkle skirt that a friend known as the Half Crazy Mama has TOTALLY got your back when it comes to race registrations! She took of care of me when I couldn't take care of myself and I am so grateful to her for getting me all signed up!

Traffic coming into the City from the South Bay was a breeze, but parking was another story. I exited 280 at 6:00am and was stuck in traffic leading into the parking lots for about 20 minutes. I've been running this race for a few years now and that has never happened. Because of being in a rush, Emelia and I never took our pre-race selfie, but we did start on time and that's all that matters! She ran the half and I ran the 10K.

I'd been holding in my pee since about Daly City, but the port-a-potty lines were so long that when I did finally get a chance to stop I decided to not worry so much about my pace and focus a little more on having a good time and relaxing. At the 5K mark I logged into Periscope and began broadcasting. If you don't have the app, I recommend you download it if for nothing else but to watch me socially share things I would only usually FaceTime with my family. That's what Periscope is: FaceTime with the planet. It needs SO MUCH help and SO MANY upgrades, but it will do for now. Get it and follow me for some true crazy.

What makes this race so special are the flat miles along the Embarcadero void of tourists and the finish line inside of the home of the SF Giants, the greatest baseball stadium in America. Seriously.

The weather was great, the run was fun and the finish was as awesome as ever. After collecting my World Series replica ring medal, I made my way over to the field for more photos.

Part of our race bling was a free Lagunitas IPA which I thoroughly enjoyed for breakfast.

I had the pleasure of meeting Chef Elizabeth Falkner as she walked off the field. I'm a huge fan of her, her food, what she is doing for women in business/the culinary arts, all of her Food Network challenges and her kick ass hair! Such an honor to meet her after all she's done in SF. I had a total food nerd moment when I found out she was back supporting Project Open Hand and running the 10K.

Then I saw my sweet friend Laura and we took our usual race selfie! I can't wait to see her again down at Disneyland for the half marathon.

After all the fun I hopped in my car and drove home, where my honey had a glass of champagne waiting for me. I showed him my goodies and we enjoyed the rest of the day together.

This year I ran the San Jose Giant Race and the SF Giant Race, but next year I am going to add the Scottsdale Giant Race as well.

Go Giants!
