Hilton Garden Inn Seattle Downtown Review

Hilton Garden Inn Seattle Downtown Review

When I was planning my travel for Rock 'n' Roll Seattle I chose the Hilton Garden Inn Seattle Downtown based on price rather than proximity to the finish line. I'm a HiltonHonors member, so being able to earn points when I travel is also an important deciding factor. This hotel seemed to fit the bill for the trip, so I held my breath and pressed the "Reserve" button.

Located at 1821 Boren Avenue, this hotel was much closer to major points of interest than I imagined! I arrived with only 1 day to do all the sightseeing I possibly could, and with this hotel as my hub that was possible.

The Hilton Garden Inn Seattle Downtown is only 13 miles from the airport. I utilized the train to get there ($3.00 for a day pass), which didn't take too long. Tip: The walk from the station to the hotel can be a bit much if you have a lot of luggage or little ones. It took about 10 minutes from train door to hotel door with my suitcase and backpack. (I should note that I walk really fast.) When I arrived I was greeted by the valet outside and headed to the lobby to check-in. Since it wasn't even 9:00 AM and check-in was at 4:00 PM, I was told to leave my bags and phone number so that I could be contacted as soon as a room was ready. The lobby was the perfect place to charge my phone and pull some items out of my suitcase as I prepared for the day. There was plenty of water to drink and cookies to snack on as well.

The first things I noticed: 1) this hotel is super new 2) the staff is very friendly and accommodating. Sure enough, a few hours after I left I received a call that my room was ready, and I was moved up to a high floor as requested.

When I walked into my room I was so happy and refreshed that it was clean, cool and not stuffy at all. A super important thing for anyone - especially an asthmatic runner - is being in a room where you can actually breathe. Did I mention it was clean? Super clean!

The standard King room was more than enough room for me. With a desk, side chair and table, dresser, mini-fridge, microwave and coffee maker - I was set and actually wished I had come a night earlier to take advantage the hotel and the city.

I love when I walk into a hotel room and immediately see clearly visible and reachable power outlets near the bed. I'm typically working when I travel so this is a big plus. Clearly this hotel caters to its business clientele, and as a longtime business traveler, I appreciate that. I only slept a few hours, but I slept like a log. I didn't hear a peep from outside of my room. The Hilton beds do rock.

Ergonomic chair and even more power sources at the desk. My room faced the construction zone across the street so I didn't bother to take a picture of the view - it wasn't great.

The mini-fridge, microwave and coffee maker were housed in a separate unit. Perfect for storing my race day fruit and water. The adjacent closet was large - definitely also more than enough for me.

The vanity was completely separate from the rest of the room - something I always look for so that I don't disturb my daughter or better half when I turn on the light. The vanity, toilet and shower were all in one room. I was traveling alone this time so it didn't matter, but normally I prefer the vanity separate from everything else.

I really wished I'd checked out the saltwater pool!

I ordered a quick dinner and glass of wine in the restaurant which was fast and spot-on. I basically had a deconstructed burger on a bed of lettuce with veggies on top. The server made plenty of recommendations based on my diet and I even received a discount for being a race runner - bonus!

I was able to walk to Pioneer Square, Pike Place (about 20 minutes), the Space Needle, the train station and so many other little Seattle neighborhoods right from this hub. The hotel was clean, modern, comfortable and staffed by a superb group of people! The staff was very understanding with my post-race delay and allowed me to check-out later than usual. They also held my bags while I further explored the wonderful city of Seattle. I made sure to complete a customer service satisfaction card before I left to thank the staff for helping with late check-out.

Bottom line: If you are a business traveller, solo traveller or looking for a romantic weekend escape in Seattle, I absolutely recommend the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown Seattle. The property is new and within walking distance to most local hotspots. When you get tired - hop in an Uber and come back for happy hour or a nap. Above all else - the staff was superb. That's something that can make or break a stay, and in this case it made it even better!
